Candidates wanting to take their ISEB qualification in Requirements Engineering can also do so through our Fundamentals of Business Analysis training course, this course runs every 2-3 weeks and includes the ISEB Requirements Engineering exam.

Requirements Engineering - Intended Audience

This three/four day course is aimed at those who want work towards their ISEB International Diploma in Business Analysis.  It is only available as an on-site course.

This ISEB accredited course is concerned with the Requirements Engineering approach to requirements definition. Its focus is on using a systematic approach to eliciting, analysing, validating, documenting and managing requirements.

Part of the ISEB International Diploma in Business Analysis

Requirements Engineering is one of the compulsory modules for those wanting to achieve their ISEB International Diploma in Business Analysis.  To obtain the full Diploma candidates must also obtain the other compulsory module of Business Analysis Essentials, the Knowledge-based specialism module of Organisational Context and the Practitioner specialism module of Modelling Business Processes.  Candidates must also take a one hour oral exam directly with the British Computer Society following successful completion of the four modular certificates.

Requirements Engineering Course Objectives

By the end of the course the delegate will be able to:

  • Describe the roles and responsibilities of key stakeholders in the requirements engineering process
  • Demonstrate the application of a range of requirements elicitation techniques
  • Explain the use of requirements elicitation techniques and the relevance of the techniques to given situations
  • Document and prioritise user requirements for an information system
  • Identify problems with requirements and explain how requirements documentation may be improved
  • Create a process/function model of requirements for an information system
  • Interpret a model of the data requirements for an information system
  • Explain the importance of linking project objectives and requirements to the Business Case
  • Describe the principles of Requirements Management and explain the importance of managing requirements
  • Describe the use of CASE tools to support Requirements Engineering
  • Explain the principles of Requirements Validation and define an approach to validating requirements

Module 9 - Requirements Validation

Module 10 - Requirements Management

Module 11 - Benefits Confirmation

 At the end of the final day candidates will take their ISEB exam in Requirements Engineering

Case Study

A team-based case study is used throughout the course. Delegates are encouraged to make short informal presentations at the end of each case study exercise to build their confidence.

Course information

The duration of this course is four days (or three day intensive course). Courses run from approximately 9.30 - 5.30 on the first day and 9.00 until 5.15 on subsequent days. During the last 1 hour 15 minutes of the course candidates sit their ISEB exam in Requirements Engineering.  The format for the examination is a one hour written (open book) examination based on a business scenario with 15 minutes reading time.
